Intended Audience

This course gives candidates the practical and theoretical knowledge required for those who work in, or hope to work in an ambulance environment, supporting registered and non-registered healthcare professionals. Ideal for those with a responsibility at work, or in a voluntary capacity to provide emergency and urgent care.

Overview

The Qualsafe Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners (RQF) enables learners to gain the skills, understanding, and practical competencies related to emergency and urgent care to carry out the role of the Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP). Day to day duties and tasks for an AAP would involve working as part of an ambulance crew responding to emergency (999) and urgent calls, providing emergency and urgent assistance, and driving safely.

Placement Options

K2 International has teamed up with Alliance Pioneer Group to provide paid placement (£16 to £19 per hour depending on the shift) on frontline emergency ambulances with a Paramedic or EMT mentor in the South West of England. Frontline placement is not available in Northern Ireland. APG have also generously offered to cover the accomodation costs and provide blue light training to K2I students (NB: Accommodation is not covered whilst on blue light course and learners must sign a return of service agreement if they choose to have their L3 CERAD funded) - an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to become an EMT and wants a widely recognised qualification. With this partnership our students will more than double their investment on the training course before they even qualify (assuming base rate of £16ph for 750 hours this will earn the candidate ~£12,000).

Learners can also complete placement with any provider of frontline emergency care for any organisation as an Emergency Care Assistant as long as that placement is with a qualified EMT or higher clinical grade, and is on frontline emergency ambulance.

Alternatively, candidates could choose to do their placement hours with our other partner agency - Global Medical Projects (GMP). GMP can offer frontline ambulance and emergency department placements without the need for L3 CERAD and C1 entitlement in several countries around the world. Two of our instructors have availed of their placement in Guadalajara, Mexico and can highly recommend it (NB this is at the candidates own expense and costs approximately £3, 000 not including flights and spending money - accommodation and food are provided see https://www.globalmedicalprojects.co.uk/ for more details).

All learners must complete a minimum of 750 hours clinical placement under the direct supervision of a qualified clinician. The following clinical settings and associated placement hours are approved by the awarding organisation:

  • Frontline Emergency Ambulance - 400 hours MINIMUM

  • Any frontline response provider within or acting on behalf of the NHS, MOD or a local CCG. This can be with the NHS or a private provider and can be completed in any country with a recognised healthcare governance system in place.

  • In-Hospital Departments - 48 Hours MAXIMUM (Cumulative)

  • Emergency Departments (Minors);

  • Acute Medical Assessment Wards;

  • High Dependency Units.

  • International Emergency and/or Urgent Care Services - 48 Hours MAXIMUM (Cumulative)

  • Emergency Departments (Minors or Majors);

  • Acute Medical Assessment Wards;

  • High Dependency Units.

  • Primary Unscheduled Urgent and Emergency Care - 200 Hours MAXIMUM (Cumulative)

  • Emergency Departments (Majors);

  • GP Surgery

  • Minor Injury Units

  • Specialists Services - 96 Hours MAXIMUM (Cumulative)

  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology

  • Coronary Care Units;

  • Theatres;

  • Geriatric Units;

  • End of Life units/Teams.

Some of these non-frontline ambulance placements can be sourced in Northern Ireland by speaking to your local trusts placement co-ordinator via their Clinical Education Centre.

NB: K2 International is in no way responsible for your placement hours and acts only as an intermediary to introduce learners to reputable ambulance and healthcare organisations. It is the sole responsibility of the learner to pass compliance checks with these organisations such as background check, interview, mandatory training, possession of a valid Level 3 CERAD certificate and C1 entitlement on your driving license and travel/accomodation expenses where applicable.

Assessment Methods

  • 11 x Practical Assessments

  • 1 x Theory Assessment

  • 1 x Invigilated Exam.
